THE HORNING FAMILY
"Dad always called us a team. It's not that often that you get an opportunity to have land that has so much history, wildlife, and beauty. Historical preservation is a thrill. To see the results out of something that can show positive results is both fulfilling and fun. The history of what you do and find is the biggest thrill of all."

Our family immigrated to Butte County in 1856.  Merritt. C. Horning, who was born on Butte Creek Ranch along with his brothers Fulton, Melvin and Wendel, dedicated his life to health and wellness.  One of his life dreams was the Feather River Hospital which was built in Paradise, California and operated as a wellness and education center coupled with a hospital.  The patients were served food from the organic garden on the property.  The Family has been involved in health care, cattle, timber, resorts, and is now focused on doing what it can to preserve and restore land.  Our forefathers loved this land, but the mining and cattle caused damage, mainly from soil moving off the land into creeks.  Soil is extremely delicate during periods of extreme saturation.

Kristina Horning, a 6th generation Horning going to Chico State, created this website from scratch.
